The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation improves cardiovascular health through clinical research and education.
Changes in healthcare and other factors critical to the success of MHIF since its founding in 1982 require it to continually adapt - and sometimes to lead - if it is to remain successful. At present, these changes require that MHIF be better focused, demonstrate real teamwork, and balance services with resources available. In particular:
- MHIF will develop effective collaboration between its research and education functions, translating emerging knowledge into effective professional and consumer practices.
- MHIF will collaborate more actively with community groups, fostering the adoption of effective cardiovascular health practices by individuals and families.
- MHIF will be a testing ground for emerging knowledge and technology in cardiovascular health and a catalyst for change in other organizations and in the community.
- As MHIF builds a stronger image in the community, funding will increase and it will come from more diverse sources.
The principal focus of the Foundation's work is in the following areas:
- Developing new clinical knowledge about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease,
- Translating new knowledge and technology into effective practice in healthcare systems,
- Educating health professionals about advances in managing cardiovascular health, and
- Educating individuals, families and communities about promoting health and preventing disease.
