  Advanced Cardiac Imaging Center

Overview:
Our mission in Imaging Research is to improve patient care and outcomes by studying imaging technologies in the diagnosis of the disease processes. We aspire to advance technology to provide accurate diagnosis, reducing time to diagnosis, patient risk and procedural cost. The Minneapolis Heart Institute provides state of the art technology including our newest CT Scanner the SOMATOM Definition Flash with its two X-ray tubes enables acquisition of the entire heart in ultrafast 250 ms. resulting in a reduced radiation dose of down to an unprecedented 1 mSv or less. We provide a comprehensive CT Angiography (CTA) course focused on reading and performing CT Coronary Angiography through a case-based mentored approach. The Minneapolis Heart Institute has one of the largest CTA experiences worldwide.

Research Studies and Programs

·        Imaging Database
Our database includes over 20,000 procedures in CT and MRI imaging.

·        CT Stat Study: Patient with indeterminate chest who present though the emergency room are randomized between to imaging procedures. Nuclear Medicine Stress Test vs. CTA to compare time to diagnosis, time to discharge and cost.

·        Visiting Clinician Program: The CT Angiography course is a comprehensive course focused on reading and performing CT Coronary Angiography through a case-based mentored approach. The Minneapolis Heart Institute has one of the largest CTA experiences world-wide. Sheer volume of experience has helped these physicians hone the accuracy of their scan readings and has put them in demand as international CTA expert resources. They are intimately involved in setting the national standards for coronary CT lab accreditation and physician credentialing, and in developing an international board exam to ensure that reading physicians are appropriately trained to interpret coronary CT angiography.

·        Promise Study: Comparing different imaging tests for diagnosis in patients with indeterminate chest pain.
