Case: Hypoplastic Left Heart by CTA
presented by Mike Miedema, MHI Advanced Imaging Fellow

Case Archive

MHI physicians have an extensive advanced cross-sectional imaging program focused on MRI and cardiac CTA, imaging modalities that integrate well with traditional imaging methods, such as echo, nuclear and the catheterization lab. We believe this integration is essential because the advanced imaging practice adds substantial clinical benefit to the more traditional imaging methods.

We have been performing advanced imaging since 2001. By carefully correlating the clinical scenario with the images, we have helped clarify many previously uncertain patient issues. Credibility has been established within the clinical group to the point that we are currently imaging between 10 and 25 patients in the CT scanner and performing 8 to 15 cardiac MRI scans each day. Both programs have a specially trained cardiologist dedicated the scanner in order to help direct the scans and respond to clinical questions.

Our practice has three primary focus areas:

  • To provide timely diagnostic consultations of the highest quality
  • To improve the utility of cardiac MRI and cardiac CT through research
  • To educate healthcare professionals about advanced imaging technologies
