Research shows that modifying certain behaviors can significantly reduce the risk of developing heart disease.  The Foundation educates diverse audiences about heart health through our community programs and services.  It is the goal of these programs to increase personal awareness of risk factors and provide the tools necessary to assist individuals in their pursuit of heart-healthy lifestyles.

More than twice as many women will die each year from heart disease than all forms of cancer combined, including breast cancer.

The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, in collaboration with the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, is taking a multi-pronged approach to improving women’s heart health through clinical care, education, prevention and exciting new research studies.
Led by physicians who are passionate about women’s heart health, the Women’s Heart Health Program spotlights the specific cardiovascular needs of women. Surprisingly, many women do not know they are at risk or do not recognize that the symptoms of heart disease in women may be different from those in men.
We will share the latest knowledge of how cardiovascular disease affects women and how we can move forward to address the disparities in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and research of cardiovascular disease in women. Often, public opinion lags behind objective reality: cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of women’s disability and death, yet many women and men do not understand this fact. Our job here at MHIF is to research, to learn, and to educate in this vital area.
