Every day we are bombarded with messages from health professionals and the media to eat healthy foods; foods that are low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. Despite the advice to eat heart healthy, Americans today are consuming more fat and calories than ever.
One of the major risk factors for coronary artery disease is high blood cholesterol. Health professionals agree that a diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol will raise cholesterol levels. Likewise, a high calorie diet increases the likelihood of being overweight or obese, having high blood pressure, diabetes, and other illnesses. To those that are still holding fast to the opinion that it would be more appealing to eat a cardboard box than to eat foods that are prepared low in fat, cholesterol, and calories, hang on to your pots and pans! Youre in for a tantalizing, taste bud awakening adventure!
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation has assembled a collection of heart-healthy recipes that have been used for our HeartMatters Community Education cooking/nutrition courses. You will find a variety of delicious low-fat/ low-cholesterol, easy to prepare recipes. Each recipe includes a nutritional analysis. New recipes are added frequently, so check back often! Contact us with your favorite heart-healthy recipes. With your permission, we will add them to our collection and post them on our website.
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation has also developed a cookbook, "Cooking with Heart & Soul". This cookbook is full of heart healthy recipes for you and your family! To order this cookbook, print out this order form.
