Selecting the Right Cessation Program

If you are a smoker or a health professional referring a smoker to a program, and are using this resource to select a provider for smoking cessation services, remember to ask these questions.

What approach do you use to help people quit smoking? Is the program flexible? Does it offer a variety of strategies?

What are the staff's credentials?

Is the staff able to refer you to qualified professionals for medical and stress related problems?

What makes your program qualified? Is it based on research data?

What education materials do you offer to participants?

What is the success rate of your program? How is it determined? What is your definition of success?

What can I expect if I join your program? Are there any side effects?

Is there follow-up after the program is over?

How much does the program cost? Do you offer any guarantees? Can participants repeat the program at a reduced cost or no charge?

Can you provide references?
