Heart of Summer 2011
On Saturday July 23, 2011 - Over 1,700 people participated in the Boston Scientific Heart of Summer 5k and 10k races at Lake Nokomis. More than 100 of the participants were women from MHIF's Women on the Move program. Participation in the Heart of Summer race was the finale of the Women on the Move program, an eight week walk/run training clinic held in South Minneapolis and Midtown Minneapolis.
The Women on the Move program is designed to improve women's heart health through education and prevention by providing women with motivation and support to stay physically active and adopt heart healthy lifestyles. Walking or running in an organized race was a brand new experience for the majority of participants and completing the Heart of Summer race was a great accomplishment for the group.
Proceeds from the Heart of Summer Race benefit women's heart health initiatives, including those at MHIF.
