A Season for Heart-Healthy Cooking

Raghavan Iyer

Raghavan Iyer, certified culinary professional and owner of Essence of Thyme, Inc., utilizes his charismatic style and interactive demonstrations to unveil cooking techniques and creative use of spices through spectacular Indian recipes that provide valuable nutritional benefits to the heart. Iyer is the author of the new Betty Crocker’s Indian Home Cooking and the upcoming The Turmeric Trail: A Bowl Full of Recipes Thickened with Memories.

Paulette Mitchell

Also presenting at the cooking program was Paulette Mitchell, gourmet chef/lecturer/instructor/consultant. Paulette, through a delightful presentation, provided various tips and techniques for low-fat cooking, using recipes that are quick enough to prepare for everyday eating. Mitchell is the author of numerous award-winning books, including The 15 Minute Gourmet Series on Vegetarian, Chicken, and Noodles; The New American Vegetarian Menu Cookbook; The Complete Soy Cookbook and others.


State of the Heart: An Evening With Dr. Dean Ornish

Dr. Dean Ornish was the keynote speaker at the Foundation’s prevention program held October 17th at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. More than 500 participants enjoyed an entertaining and informative presentation on reversing heart disease through lifestyle modification to include exercise, diet and meditation. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and interact one-on-one with Dr. Ornish at the conclusion of the event.
