A group of ultra-cyclist MDs on the medical staff of Abbott Northwestern Hospital will be competing in a grueling cross-country race to raise money for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF).
Known as Team Heart, these professionals will compete in Race Across America, a non-stop 3,000 mile bicycle race beginning in Portland, Oregon on June 21, 2000 and ending seven and a half days later in Pensacola, Florida.
With the dramatic increase in obesity and physical inactivity in Minnesota and the United States as a whole, these competitive athlete-physicians want to bring attention to the dire need to promote health through physical activity.
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation will use the proceeds from the event as seed money to initiate the development of a statewide campaign to promote physical activity among all Minnesotans. MHIF has partnered with the Minnesota Council on Physical Activity and Sports and others to plan and implement this exciting health promotion initiative.
