Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day has taken on a new meaning at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation for the last couple of years. Paper Warehouse, Inc. designated the Foundation to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of more than 200,000 heart shaped balloons sold during a Valentine's week promotion. In 1999 the company contributed $10,000. This year only corporate owned stores participated and raised $11,948 for research
and education.
Endowment Update
The Fredarick Gobel/Robert Van Tassel Endowment for Research in Cardiology and the Demetre Nicoloff Endowment for Cardiovascular Surgery have reached $1.92 million (96%) of the $2.0 million goal to advance the Foundation's scientific investigations. Nearly 200 special friends and patients have given generously to reach this milestone in just four years. All earnings from the endowments are restricted in perpetuity for research unique to cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. For more information call 612/863-3958.
Golf Classic 2000
It takes commitment and dedication to grow a golf event for 19 years. An event that can remain successful, despite the competition, has something special going for it. That something special for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is its sponsors and players. Make Golden Valley Country Club the place to be on June 19 as the Foundation presents its Nineteenth Annual Golf Classic. Prizes, food, events, refreshments, gifts, live and silent auctions, and 6,473 yards of private country club await your participation. The cost per person is $300, $135 is tax deductible. Quiet No More
Special Friends, Special Gifts was the theme of a 'quiet' campaign launched in 1999 to promote multi-year commitments to achieve a $250,000 source of annual support for the Foundation's research and education programs. To more than double 1998 contributions of $115,049 would be quite an accomplishment, stretching the Foundation in its goal setting. We did not quite make it the first year, but we added substantially because those special gifts from 155 special friends totaled $202,366. Thank you for responding generously and for continuing an 18-year tradition of progress. Please join us in 2000 to make the campaign a complete success.
