Board Profiles

Dr. Kevin M. Harris

Stuart Nolan

Dr. Kevin Harris has been a cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute (MHI) since 1998. Prior to that, he served on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, where he performed clinical research and taught students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Harris is interested in all areas of cardiology, but has a special interest in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He is also very interested in education, and directs the cardiology training program at MHI. This gives him the opportunity to serve as a member of the University of Minnesota Fellowship Committee and clinical faculty. In 2001, the cardiology fellows awarded Dr. Harris the MHI Teacher of the Year Award.

About the Minneapolis Heart Institute, Dr. Harris says that the organization is "unique in allowing sub-specialization within the group and in valuing the inclusion of research and teaching. My interest in clinical research and the teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students keeps me up-to-date on the latest developments in this ever-changing field."

Dr. Harris' interest in teaching and clinical research leads naturally to his involvement with the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, according to Foundation president, Dr. Ford Bell. "We are fortunate to have Kevin on the Foundation's board of directors," says Dr. Bell, "as he is 100% committed to our missions of advancing knowledge through research, and of preventing heart disease through innovative education programs. He has been a dedicated supporter of the work of the Foundation since he joined the Minneapolis Heart Institute, and we are very grateful for his strong advocacy."

Dr. Harris serves on the Foundation's Research and Communication Committees.

Stuart Nolan

Neointimal Hyperplasia

Stu Nolan, founder and chairman of Stuart Companies, has been on the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation's board since 1999 and has just started his second three-year term. A heart patient, Stu is grateful for the care that he has received from the physicians of the Minneapolis Heart Institute, and he was anxious to find a way to help others who suffer from heart disease. "When I was cared for by physicians from the Institute in 1986, I was impressed by the quality of care as well as their dedication and professionalism. That experience caused me to learn about the Foundation. I welcomed the opportunity to become involved."

Stu has been a generous donor to the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation for the past 15 years. Foundation vice president of development, Blaine Thrasher, notes that Stu has made generous contributions to the Foundation's endowments, and to the current heart hospital campaign. "In addition," says Blaine, "Stu has been a regular sponsor of our annual fall fundraising dinner."

Stu serves on the Foundation's Executive and Investment Committees, where his financial background has been very helpful. Says Foundation president, Dr. Ford Bell, "Stu is an extremely committed board member, and his insights have been very important to us, especially on the Executive Committee. He knows how to get right to the heart of an issue, and he always asks the right questions. Stu keeps us on our toes, which is what a good board member is supposed to do. We are very grateful for everything that he has done, and continues to do, for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation." Stu has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota, and is both a CPA and a Certified Property Manager. He serves on the boards of several local and national real estate organizations and charitable organizations. Stu and his wife Pam have three children.
